SNORING AND SLEEP APNEA

Snoring not only disturbs sleep but can also have serious health consequences. While harmless snoring primarily causes noise-related strain (often affecting partners), obstructive sleep apnea syndrome carries significantly higher risks. Sleep apnea involves repeated pauses in breathing during sleep, which can lead to daytime fatigue, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, or strokes.

Important: Children can also be affected – and are especially vulnerable.

Causes of sleep apnea:
We begin with a thorough examination of the nose, throat, and larynx, using modern endoscopy and testing in different body positions – since sleep does not take place in the treatment chair.
If necessary, we initiate sleep screening and, if required, refer patients to a sleep laboratory for further testing.

Treatment options:

  • Surgery (e.g., outpatient laser treatment of nose or palate, septoplasty, palatal surgery)
  • Snoring splints (mandibular advancement devices)
  • CPAP masks ensuring continuous airflow during sleep

Together, we find a tailored treatment to restore restful sleep and improve quality of life.
