Septal Perforation Repair
A hole in the nasal septum (septal perforation) may result from:
- Chronic inflammation
- Injuries or trauma
- Previous surgeries
- Drug use
- Certain systemic diseases (e.g., Wegener’s granulomatosis, Osler’s disease)
Symptoms may include dryness, crusting, nosebleeds, pain, impaired nasal breathing, or noisy breathing. Large perforations can even change the shape of the nose (saddle nose).
Treatment options:
- Surgical closure (complex, requiring specialized techniques and experience)
- Prosthetic closure (custom silicone or plastic button) to normalize airflow and relieve symptoms
